Redlines are how vendors propose contract changes instead of signing as-is. Company-wide negotiation controls live in one Settings page. Who can redline and who signs is handled elsewhere, so this article shows you all three places.
Steps
Open Settings → Redline Settings.
Turn on Allow redline negotiation at the top of the page. This is the master switch and it is off by default. It lets vendors propose changes to contracts you send, and you can still turn redlining on for an individual contract when sending a commitment. When it is on, the status beside the switch reads Allowed; when it is off it reads Off.
Set your Redline Controls:
Require reason for redline request: when a party requests a redline change, they must provide a written justification.
Require feedback for redline review: reviewers must provide feedback for all redline submissions.
Both are optional. Turn them on if you want a documented paper trail on every negotiation round.
Where the rest is controlled
Who is allowed to redline → Settings → Permission Groups (redline permissions are part of each role's access).
Who negotiates and signs on a given job → assigned per-project during project setup, not here.
What happens next
With the controls on, a vendor requesting a change is prompted for a written reason, and your reviewers must leave feedback when they accept or reject, so the negotiation history is complete when the contract is executed.
If this doesn't work
If Redline settings is greyed out in Settings → hover the card and it tells you why. "Redlines are not enabled for your company. Contact your account manager to turn them on." means the feature is off for your account. "Your role does not include account configuration access. Ask a company admin to update it." means you need the Account Setup & Configuration view permission, which is set in Settings → Permission Groups.
If a redline request arrives with no explanation → turn on Require reason for redline request here; it applies to new requests going forward.
If someone can't participate in a redline → check their role in Permission Groups, then confirm they're assigned as a negotiator on that project.
