How do I create a project?

Written by Zach Koerber

To create a project, click Create in the top right, choose New project, fill in the project name and details, then click Create project.

Setting up a project takes a few minutes, and you can fill in what you know now and come back to add the rest later.

Steps

1. Click Create in the top right of any page.

2. Click New project in the menu. (You will also see New commitment, New change order, and New task here.)

3. Enter a Project Name at the top of the form.

4. Open Select playbook and choose the playbook for this project.

5. Set the Status for the project.

6. Fill in the detail sections: Project Details, Project Location, Project Owner, Project Attachments (badged Optional), Roles & Responsibilities, and Contract packages. Each section header shows how many of its fields you have filled out of the total it displays, and lists what is still blocking beside it, for example "Required: Project Manager, Coordinator".

Required fields: Project Name, Company, and Playbook at the top of the form, plus Project Manager and Coordinator under Roles & Responsibilities. Everything in Project Details, Project Location, and Project Owner is optional. The footer keeps a running Still required list of whatever is left.

7. Click Create project. To finish later instead, click Save draft.

What happens next

Your project is created and opens to its own page, where the Commitments and Tasks tabs let you start sending contracts and assigning work. The playbook you picked applies its package and compliance requirements to the project, so the right documents are ready when you start a commitment.

If this doesn't work

  • If Create project stays greyed out → something required is still empty. Read the Still required list in the footer, or check each section header for its Required: note and fill the fields it names. Click Save draft to keep your progress in the meantime.

  • If the detail sections look greyed out and will not open → you have not chosen a playbook yet. Pick one at the top of the form and the project fields unlock.

  • If Select playbook has no options → playbooks are built under Templates first. Create the playbook there, then return to the project form.

  • If you do not have every detail yet → enter what you know and click Save draft. You can reopen the project and finish the remaining fields anytime.
