Project Details is the first collapsible section on a project's Project setup tab. It holds the dates, numbers, and value that describe the job, and those values are what your generated documents pull from later.
You do not have to complete it in one sitting. The page tells you as much: "Fill in what you know now, you can always come back to add more."
Applies to: Users with edit access to the project
Steps
Open the project and stay on the Project setup tab.
Click Project Details to expand the section.
Fill in the dates you have: Awarded Date, Estimated Starting Date, and Estimated Completion Date.
Enter Project Number for your own number, and Owner Project Number for the number the project owner uses.
Enter Project Value (USD).
Choose a Contractor License from the Select a license dropdown. This is your own company's license, not a vendor's. If your company has no licenses on file, open the dropdown and click Add a license.
Choose a Project Stage from the Select stage… dropdown.
Click Next Section to continue to Project Location.
What happens next
The values stay on the project and are available to your templates. In Settings → Merge fields, the Project group lists 34 project merge codes, including Project awarded date ({{project_awarded_date}}) and Project value ({{project_value}}). Any template using those codes fills in what you entered here when a document is generated.
If you need to record something the standard fields do not cover, Add New Field sits at the bottom of the section.
If this doesn't work
You cannot find the section → the collapsible sections only appear on the Project setup tab. If you are on Commitments, Tasks, Documents, or Activity, switch back to Project setup.
You cannot see a save button → these sections do not show a separate save control. Use Next Section to move on.
The fields will not accept typing → you likely have view-only access to the project. Ask an Admin in your account to change your role.
