A Template is one reusable document, a Package is a bundle of Templates that go out together in a commitment, and a Playbook is a reusable project profile that applies the right Package plus compliance requirements when you set up a project. They nest: Templates fill Packages, and Packages plug into Playbooks.
It is easy to mix these up at first, since all three live under Templates and work together.
The three building blocks
Template: a single reusable document. It can be a Contract template, or a Task template: a Transmittal, a Document request (such as a W-9 or a business license), a Certificate of Insurance, an SF 1413, or a Weekly Certified Payroll. A Template is the smallest unit, and you find all of them in the Template Library. Click Templates in the left sidebar, then click View template library.
Package: a bundle of Templates that send together in one commitment. For example, a Package can combine a subcontract, a COI request, and a W-9 request so they go out as one set.
Playbook: a reusable project profile you pick during project setup. A Playbook applies the right Package plus the compliance requirements for a type of work, such as a "Federal (Design-Build)" Playbook.
How they fit together
Clicking Templates in the sidebar opens the Playbooks page. It lists each Playbook as a card with its Packages inside, and opening a Package shows the Templates in it. To build a Playbook, click New playbook at the top of that page. To build a Template, click New template. To build a Package, click New package at the bottom of that playbook's card.
What happens next
Once these are set up, creating a project gets faster. You pick a Playbook at project setup, and its Package and compliance requirements are applied automatically, so you do not rebuild the document set each time.
If this doesn't work
If you only see individual documents, not Packages or Playbooks → you are in the Template Library. Click Playbooks to go back to the Playbooks page, where Packages and Playbooks live.
If a Playbook is not pulling in the documents you expect → open the Playbook and confirm the correct Package is attached, since a Playbook only applies the Package set on it.
If a document is missing from a Package → open the Package and add the missing Template, since a Package only sends the Templates included in it.
