Templates are the reusable documents behind everything you send: contracts vendors sign, and task requests like document uploads or acknowledgements. You build a template once, then reuse it across projects and packages.
Steps
Open Templates in the left sidebar.
Click New template (top right).
Pick your template type:
Contract template: a contract for vendors to sign. Reuse it across projects.
Task template: request a document or acknowledgment from a vendor.
For a contract template, enter a Template name and upload your document. Use a Word file (.docx) to edit the contract in the editor, or a .pdf to drop signature fields onto the page. A contract needs a Prime and a Vendor signature field to publish.
Set the Days to sign, which is how long vendors have to sign after receiving the contract. Use the quick +3 / +5 / +10 days buttons or type a number.
Your document opens in the editor. On the right, the Insert Fields panel lets you drag in:
Form fields: optional or required checkboxes and text fields for the signer.
Signatures: Prime and Vendor Initials, Signature, and Date blocks.
Merge fields: auto-filled values like company name, address, and project details.
Click Publish to make the template usable in packages, or Save draft to keep working on it.
If you click Publish before placing a signature field, Contracts Connected asks: "Add a signature field to publish". Vendors need a place to sign. Without a signature field this contract cannot be published, so save it as a draft and publish it once the field is in. Click Add signature field to go back and drop one in, or Save as draft. Saving a draft never triggers this dialog.
What happens next
Your new template appears in the Template Library (Templates → View template library). From its row menu you can Edit, Variation, Download, or Delete it. To use the template, add it to a package with Add to Package. Packages are what get attached to projects and sent to vendors.
If this doesn't work
If Publish and Save draft are greyed out → a required field is missing. Check that you have entered a name and uploaded a file.
If Publish is refused → the contract needs both a Prime and a Vendor signature field. Save it as a draft and publish once both fields are in.
If your document preview looks empty → the file may not have converted cleanly. Re-save it from Word as .docx and upload again.
If you deleted a template by mistake → deletion is permanent, but if the template was already in a package, the package keeps working. Re-upload the original file to recreate it.
